My name is David Smith, and I am relatively unknown in the political
world; I am just another middle class, hard-working American. I have
just made one of the most important decisions of my life by deciding to
seek the Libertarian nomination for the House of Representatives Texas
District 2.
I
have chosen to run because I realize that America is careening off course and
no one seems to be able to right her and steer her back to a safe harbor. None of
the current elected officials in Washington seem to be able to agree to what to
do. It is painful to pick up a newspaper or turn on a news report without being
bombarded with all of the problems that America is facing, e.g., economic instability,
social challenges, foreign policy disputes, leadership struggles, government corruption,
and the removal of personal freedoms.
President Barack Obama was elected because
he promised
change. He failed to define what change
was going to be, and a huge percentage of the American voting population, desperate
for change, blindly believed him. President Barack Obama did deliver the
change he promised, but it was not for the betterment of America or her
people.
I love America, and I love my home state of Texas. I'm proud of our
godly heritage, our accomplishments, and our form of government. I have known men who have sacrificed
their lives for our country and our unique freedoms. We must not allow corrupted,
elected officials to steal those freedoms away from us – that is not what those
brave soldiers laid their lives down for. Duty, honor, and country are more
than meaningless words and phrases; they give us our national framework and set America
apart.
I have the highest regard for the Constitution of the United States and
the Constitution of the State of Texas, both of which every elected
official in Texas is sworn to uphold. I firmly believe that the Bill of
Rights was meant to protect our rights from an overbearing federal
government. It gives us our freedom of religion, speech, press,
assembly, petition; our right to protect ourselves by bearing arms; it
protects us from illegal search and seizures; self-incrimination; a
right to a trial by jury, etc. We cannot surrender our liberties
without a fight, and, fellow Americans, I am ready to fight.
I want to make a difference. I want to help steer American back to her safe harbor.
Your
generous gift can aid me in restoring America one state at a time. I am aware
that such a challenge will demand great financial resources, so I appreciate your
prayerful willingness to contribute.
The battle is not to the strong alone; it is to the
vigilant, the active, and the brave. Together we will prevail, and with God's blessings,
we will preserve our civil and religious freedoms for the sake of our children,
our grandchildren, and our country.
