PUBLIC NEWS, HOUSTON BUSINESS LEDGER EDITORIAL CHAIRMAN BACKS SMITH FOR CONGRESS
Ken Petty Says Libertarian
Challenger Would Be
Vocal Defender of U. S. Constitution
(HOUSTON) Ken Petty, editorial chairman of Public News and Houston Business Ledger, today endorsed David Smith, Libertarian nominee for Congress from Texas's 2nd District.
"Mr. Poe could have been a more vocal and more 'in your face' defender of the Constitution, but has failed," Petty said of the incumbent, Ted Poe. "Mr. Smith will not fail in that regard. That's why I want to help Mr. Smith Go To Washington."
Smith welcomed the support. "I may not be getting four-figure contributions from Halliburton or Microsoft, as my opponent is, but I am getting more and more support from small business, labor, taxpayers, and consumers. Mr. Petty is an excellent example of that support."
The campaign's Media Manager, Jeff Daiell, was also delighted. "I know Mr. Petty personally, and am glad to have him aboard. Let Mr. Poe represent lobbyists such as Sonnenschein Nath and Rosenthal; when Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, he will represent Tommy and Tammy Texas."
There is no Democrat in the 2nd District race.
Smith has knocked on over 87,000 doors so far in this campaign.
SMITH FOR CONGRESS NAMES FORMER BUSH/PERRY CAMPAIGNER PAUL MATTIS COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
(HOUSTON)
David Smith, Libertarian nominee for
Congress from Texas's
2nd District, has named Paul Mattis of Graham (Young County) Editorial Assistant for the campaign. Mr. Mattis had been a researcher and canvasser for the Bush For Governor campaign in 1998, and a speechwriter for the 2002 Perry campaign. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Strategic Communication.
Married and the father of two, Mr. Mattis abandoned the Republican Party in dismay over its adoption of the budgetary recklessness that has long characterized the Democratic Party. He currently teaches American Literature and coaches speech and debate.
The campaign's Media Manager, Jeff Daiell, welcomed Mr. Mattis with enthusiasm. "Both Beltway parties are losing some of their best stalwarts to the Libertarian Party," Daiell said, "and they will be a key to making 2010 a breakthrough year for the Libertarian Party in Texas. Voters from all three parties are joining the effort to help Mr. Smith Go To Washington."
Smith is challenging Ted Poe, and there is no Democrat in the race.

Houston Area LP Candidates Planning Strategy
For Upcoming Elections
By:Steve
Susman
Members
of the
Houston
area Libertarian Party will be gathering on the evening of May 15th at the
campaign headquarters of gubernatorial hopeful Katherine Youngblood Glass. The
strategizing summit will include some Congressional Candidates such
as Bruce A. West (District 8), David Smith (District 2) and Steve Susman
(District 22). The Libertarian Party is showing a marked improvement in voter
interest, due to recent public disgust in the two party system.
Katherine Youngblood Glass, who had held off from entering the gubernatorial
race previously has now thrown her hat in the ring. Youngblood-Glass had
refrained from running to lend her support for the Debra Medina campaign. Now
that
Medina is
out of the running, she will step forward seeking the LP nomination. Her
opponents for this nomination are Jeff Daiell, Steve Nichols, and Ed Tidwell.
The Libertarian Party will hold their Gubernatorial Convention to vote on their
finalist in
Austin,
Texas June 11-13th.
The strategy session will further the party's new no-nonsense approach to
campaigning. Buckle up
Texas,
the passivity of the previously known Libertarian Party has been left behind.
This
Texas
group of Libertarians has redefined the road to this decade's electoral
campaign. Lack of funding may no longer be a problem with many candidates going
back to the real approach, meeting the voters in person. Gone are the days of
paid campaign workers and corporate sponsors, the candidates are doing the hard
work themselves. This is not your father's Libertarian Party any longer.
